Church History
In 1929, the Lord laid upon the heart of Reverend Rayfield Jackson and a few other God loving men and women to come together for praise and worship. This took place in a little wooden house at 2726 Perdido Street. They called this sanctuary the "Little Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church."
Rev. Jackson worked diligently and the membership began to grow. Neighbors and friends joined hands with the members and the house was remodeled and bricked. Little Mount Olive was an asset to the neighborhood. Many, many people came to the church for assistance at times and were never turned away. Rev. Jackson knew the way wasn't always easy but, because of his leadership, determination, dedication to his members and the community, Little Mount Olive weathered many storms.
Rev, Jackson served as Pastor for several years, until his health began to fail. Rev. Jackson stepped down, allowing another man of God to carry on.
In 1968, Rev. Jesse Mullens, Jr. became the second Pastor of Little Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church; as God continue blessing and sending laborers in the field. Under the leadership of Rev. Mullen's, many accomplishments were achieved, to mention a few: the relocation to our present site, debt free and the church's fellowship hall and annex next door.
On July 11th, 2014, the Lord called the servant of God; Rev. Mullens home. Once again Little Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, was without a pastor.
While searching for another man of God, Reverend Issac Emery was named interim pastor. After several months of allowing visiting ministers leading our worship services, also to preach and teach. On May of 2015, Rev. Timothy W. Howard, Jr. was unanimously elected third Pastor of Little Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Under the Leadership of Pastor Timothy Howard Jr., he resurrected weekly Bible Study and Sunday School. Since then the Holy Spirit allowed Pastor Howard to move on with his ministry.
During the month of March 2019 Elder Albert Stewart Jr., was asked by a member of the church to assist Rev. Issac Emery, interim pastor; would you assist him in whatever way that the Holy Spirit would allow you to do so? Elder Albert Stewart Jr. agreed, accompanied with his wife they begin attending worship services regularly. He participated by praying, preaching, teaching and supporting the ministry financially.
Therefore, on Sunday, December 22nd 2019, a meeting was held, a vote was taken; Elder Albert Stewart Jr., was elected the 4th Pastor of Little Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, by a majority of the membership voting. Elder Albert Stewart Jr., installation service took place on February 7th 2020, Friday at 7:00pm under the auspices of the First District Missionary Baptist Association; moderator, Rev. Dr. Calvin Woods Jr.
